Description

Deep Purple are one of the few bands in rock history whose legacy continues to grow with every new chapter. With more than 120 million albums sold worldwide and a catalogue that includes defining records such as In Rock, Machine Head and Made in Japan, the band secured their place among the giants of rock music long ago. Yet Deep Purple are far more than a legendary name. They remain a vital creative force, filling arenas around the world and showing that their music still carries the identity that made them unique from the very beginning. As Ian Gillan puts it, “Where we are now with this incarnation of Deep Purple feels very much like a ‘now’ version of Deep Purple as it was in the seventies.” Once again, the band has teamed up with Bob Ezrin. Together, they have made an album that draws on the band’s classic sound without falling into nostalgia. Musically, Splat! is one of the hardest and heaviest Deep Purple albums in many years – recorded in true hard rock tradition, with the band playing together in the studio. At the center of the record is a conceptual idea from Ian Gillan: Splat! deals with the end of humanity, or perhaps Deep Purple, not in any crude apocalyptic sense but as a metamorphosis beyond physical existence.
