Description
Commercial Music is the debut album from Chicago’s EX IBEX, an audacious new quintet made up of seasoned improvisers and drawing inspiration from the city’s storied creative music scene. Running 52 minutes, it brings together material from a studio session and a live performance, shaped into something cohesive, unified, and boldly stated. EX IBEX work from a strikingly broad palette: knotty slabs of art-punk, prickly avant-prog, gorgeous stretches of ambient electronics, spiritual jazz, and, crucially, funk. It’s a wide-open record with real character and a strong sense of place.
