Celebrate The Bullet

The Selector’s second album, Celebrate The Bullet, was released in February 1981 as a follow-up to their successful debut album Too Much Pressure. The album featured hit singles like “On My Radio,” “Three Minute Hero,” and “Missing Words.” The band switched labels to Chrysalis Records for this release, working with producer Roger Lomas to create a more melodic sound while still addressing racial and social issues in their lyrics. Original members Desmond Brown and Charley Anderson had left the band before recording began, with Lomas and Norman Watt-Ray stepping in to help on bass before new members James Mackie and Adam Williams joined to complete the recording. Unfortunately, the album’s release was overshadowed by the recent murder of John Lennon and an assassination attempt on U.S. President Ronald Reagan. This led to radio stations not supporting the single or album, causing the release to be largely ignored. This forgotten classic from the 2 Tone era has been remastered for a 2022 reissue, allowing for a re-evaluation of the album’s significance. Just as the 2021 reissue of Too Much Pressure showed the band’s continued relevance, this reissue of Celebrate The Bullet aims to reintroduce the album to a new generation of listeners.
