South-London based band ABNA share their self-titled debut EP with a fresh expression of contemporary British Jazz with hints of Afrobeat, Hip-Hop, Dub and Grime through the instrumentation and narrative of a classic jazz trio; Tenor Saxophone, Double-Bass and Drums. ABNA’s members have honed their skills through programs like Trinity Laban, Tomorrow’s Warriors and the Julian Joseph’s Jazz Academy, gaining recognition in London’s jazz scene. The core trio’s tracks, led by Jedd Bailey-Smith on bass, Blake Cascoe on drums, and Sam Tunnicliffe on Saxophone, take listeners on a captivating journey, including two tracks recorded in single take for a unique vinyl experience and a dub-infused track boasting collaborations with Kwake Bass, Raquel Martins, and Elias Jordan Atkinson (Obongjayar and Balimaya Project). These young musicians, who have also independently performed alongside artists like Sampha, NAYANA IZ, and Wu-Lu, demonstrate their prowess in music production through the creative use of sampling. ABNA’s intro and outro beats are crafted by sampling their own compositions recorded in the studio, reflecting their love for reimagining jazz records; ABNA, self-released via Jedidiah Records Ltd, is at the forefront of pushing musical boundaries and is poised to make a lasting impact on the world of contemporary British Jazz.
